Coaching Tip:

Creating Space

As the season changes, it’s the perfect time to refresh not just our physical space but also our emotional and mental well-being. Spring cleaning isn’t just about dusting and organising—it’s about clearing out the old to make room for the new.

Cleaning and organising look different for everyone. Here are a few ways that have had the biggest impact on me when letting go of the old and inviting in the new.

Physical Cleaning

Your home is your sanctuary, a place of rest, renewal, and well-being. Declutter by getting rid of things that no longer serve you—if you no longer love or use something, donate it to someone who might.

Create a space where you can truly recharge. Engage your senses with:

• Candles or fresh flowers.

• Reed diffusers, incense, or essential oils.

• Cosy blankets, soft lighting, or music.

For me, cleaning isn’t just about tidying up—it’s about clearing old energy. I surround myself with plants, fresh flowers, and candles, and at least once a month, I burn incense to clear my space. Small changes make a big difference, and I love experimenting with new scents and arrangements to keep my home feeling both energising and relaxing.

Emotional Cleaning

This is about acknowledging and releasing emotions that feel heavy. Ask yourself:

• Is something holding me back?

• Do I feel stuck or frustrated in any area of my life?

• Am I carrying unprocessed hurt, loss, or grief?

Let it out in a way that feels right for you:

Write it down—journaling can bring clarity and relief.

Express it—say it out loud, even if it’s just to yourself.

Ground yourself—walk barefoot in nature, hug a tree, breathe deeply, or listen to your heartbeat.

Emotions take up space within us, and if left unprocessed, they can affect both our energy and physical health. There’s even a connection between emotional release and physical weight due to hormonal regulation. So don’t be surprised if letting go emotionally makes you feel lighter in more ways than one!

Once you’ve released those emotions, take a moment to honour your courage. Be proud of your growth and grateful for the lessons.

Mental Cleaning

Our minds often feel cluttered with expectations, overthinking, and to-do lists. Mental cleaning is about identifying what truly serves you and letting go of what doesn’t.

• Set healthy boundaries—not just with strangers, but with loved ones too.

• Take a long walk or go for a run to clear your mind.

Engage in activities that bring you into a state of flow and inspiration.

Re-evaluate habits—are you doing something just because you always have? If it no longer serves you, maybe it’s time to let it go.

Understanding the purpose behind our daily activities, ways of doing things, and ultimately what truly matters to us, help us to move forward with clarity, confidence, and agency over our life.
